RAVENSBOURNE GETS INSIDE THE EDIT
Ravensbourne announced today a three year deal with the industry’s leading creative editing training company, Inside The Edit. Course leader of Post Production Greg Loftin commented on their new partnership.
“At Ravensbourne we've been running undergraduate courses in editing for over a decade. We often wrestle with the question of how best to teach the craft of editing to large cohorts. We think Inside The Edit has the answer. ITE is a unique training resource. It's about the craft of course, but it’s also about workflow, client dialogue, project set up – put simply it’s about how professional editors work in industry.
The
wizard behind this resource is Paddy Bird, an editor with a stellar list of
credits. Paddy
has clearly spent a lot of time analysing how best to teach the actual craft , working out how best to break down storytelling,
creative and ‘housekeeping’ processes to deliver clear and precise tutorials.
This is a huge and ambitious resource: our students have access to 35 hours of
broadcast quality rushes, a huge library of 2000 tracks from Universal
Production Music and a constantly updated bank of online tutorials. We have high hopes that with ITE as part of our learning and
teaching strategy we are giving our students the best start to their career as
professional editors”.
Inside The Edit’s creator Paddy Bird has spent over 15 years as one the UK’s top documentary and entertainment editors. This is the first time aspiring film makers will be able to follow the actual artistic process of broadcast level editing from beginning to end with a professional editor.
Paddy
Bird said “We are really pleased that Greg at Ravensbourne has chosen Inside
The Edit to be part of their excellent post production program. Having one of
the UK’s leading media education establishments using ITE in this way proves to
us that we’ve created an industry leading product. Since we launched our
monthly subscriptions on insidetheedit.com we’ve seen a huge
take up, particularly in the education sector, both in the UK and abroad.
Making this craft of editing course more affordable and therefore accessible to
all, has always been our goal.”
Paddy went on to add
“We can’t wait to see how the students use this unique opportunity that ITE and
Ravensbourne have provided them. This year’s students will probably be the most
informed and astute graduates to come out from any University media course in
the UK making them possibly the most prepared for real work in the university’s
history”
Inside The Edit has had great successes since its launch only 9 months ago, with clients in over 50 countries, from individuals to major media organisations including the BBC, Vice Media, Reuters, Discovery and Zodiac Media to name but a few.
